IAC (Web Walmart) Eyes African American Market for Social Networking
April 18, 2007 – 12:35 pmIAC/InterActive Corp. on Wednesday said it plans to launch a new community site aimed at African Americans, coinciding with a larger social networking movement away from the mass chaos of MySpace toward better-targeted, smaller communities. The unnamed site won’t launch until next January, but it will feature news, entertainment, advice and local business information, in addition to integrating several of IAC’s 60-plus Internet brands, including Ticketmaster, dating site Match.com and the search engine Ask.com.
IAC is a fat bloated man with too many hands. That being said they are a huge powerhouse and can put the fat man behind the push into other markets. The problem with companies like IAC is that that have no character like the fresh little start-up’s do. I think in the end, the user will opt for the mom and pop shops of the internet, rather then the Wal Marts like Match and other IAC web properties. I know when I have a choice I always go with the little guy.
