Match.com and True.com Both Trash

July 13, 2007 – 10:29 am

While opening my credit card bill today, I noticed that I had been charged a subscription fee by Match.com, an account I had canceled months back. I was pretty frustrated with this, so I called the 800 number to see what was going on. After getting the operator on the phone, I explained that I had canceled my subscription months back and that I was still charged for it. She then preceded to ask me to hold on. After many clicks and clacks of her keyboard, she came back and said, “Sir you used it”. I said yeah, I had used it as It was paid for. She then said I had logged in after the subscription cancellation request. I said “yeah I have”. She then said that since I had interacted with the site that they continued my subscription. I said “what”?!!? Now not only was I charged for a renewed subscription without my permission, but just the mere fact that I interacted with the site implied that permission. I then told her, “If I called my cable company, and told them to cancel my cable, and then turned on my tv, would that give them permission to continue to charge me? I said no it wouldn’t, I would be staring at a bunch of static.”

This is one of the many reasons paid dating is on the slide. Just recently a Time Article called Eharmony one of the top 5 worst sites on the internet. This is the begining of the end for paid dating. Until these mega corporations figure out that people are tired of being pushed around, the little guy will start to win out. Sites like Collaboradate continue to fight for the little guy… because we are the little guy, and we know what it feels like to have dirt kicked in our face. Look out Goliath, David is coming ;)
